  • The trip to Fuvahmulah takes us to the deep south of the Maldives - the island is located around 500 kilometers south of Male. The third largest island in the Maldives is 4.9 square kilometers in size and is the closest island in the archipelago to the equator. Fuvahmulah is an upscale atoll with around 13,000 inhabitants. Tourism on the island is still relatively new compared to other areas of the Maldives - which is precisely why the charm and warmth of the local population is still very much in evidence. Due to its enormous biodiversity, the island has been a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 2020. Unique to the Maldives are two freshwater lakes and beaches consisting of small white pebbles.

Today, Fuvahmulah is known as one of the best dive sites in the world for diving with sharks and other pelagic species. The unique underwater topography allows the reef system to drop rapidly into the depths of the Indian Ocean, bringing with it an extraordinary variety of deep-sea predators.

  • Fuvahmulah is the shark mecca of the Maldives! The island is known for its elegant tiger sharks, which can be spotted daily and all year round. Thresher shark sightings are also common, as are blacktip, whitetip and gray reef sharks. Schools of hammerhead sharks can also be seen in winter. Encounters with giant manta rays, whale sharks and other deep-sea animals such as tuna are also possible. We also have the opportunity to dive with oceanic whitetip sharks, blue sharks and silky sharks on a deep-sea trip.

Apart from this diversity of pelagic hunters, the island is surrounded by an extremely healthy reef system and there are many reef fish and other charismatic inhabitants such as turtles.

  • During our time on Fuvahmulah, we stayed in a nice and centrally located hotel with WiFi and 24-hour reception. The rooms are comfortably furnished and equipped with air conditioning. The pool on the roof terrace with a view of the sea is remarkable. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served in the restaurant of the diving school. Allergies and intolerances will be taken into consideration. Please get in touch with us.

  • On the first day we will fly from Male to Fuvahmulah and check into the hotel. Dive boxes for the diving equipment will be available at the hotel so that the equipment is ready for the next day at the dive center. Transportation between the hotel and the dive center will of course be provided.

During the 4 diving days, we will do three dives after breakfast, consisting of reef and tiger shark dives. Afterwards we will have lunch together and enjoy a quiet afternoon exploring the island. If you would like to rent a scooter, we can organize this on a daily basis.

The day before departure, we head 14 miles out to sea early in the morning. We try to dive with blue sharks, silky sharks, whitetip sharks and tuna. In the evening we enjoy a beach BBQ to bring our week to a relaxing close.

The day of departure is dive-free. Instead, we have organized an island tour during which we will get to know the many treasures of Fuvahmulah.

  • Fuvahmulah is a tropical island with temperatures in December between 26 and 29 degrees celsius and high humidity. The water temperature is around 28 degrees celsius, whereby a 3 mm wetsuit is usually sufficient. As always in the tropics, rain showers are not uncommon, with an average of around 13 rainy days in December. Short, light clothing and a rain jacket are therefore ideal. For mosquito protection, longer, light clothing is also a good idea in the morning and evening hours.

For domestic flights, 25 kg of checked baggage and 5 kg of hand baggage are permitted. After that, excess baggage costs USD 5.00 per kilogram.

A diving license is required for divers. If you do not have your own diving equipment, this can be hired on site from our partner. Diving insurance is also required and can be purchased on site.
