Few countries in the world combine such a large variety of species in a relatively small area as Sri Lanka!
In a marine region of Sri Lanka that is not yet regularly visited by any tour operators, we go in search of the largest hunters in the world, the Sperm whales, along with various other species! In addition to normal groups of up to 10 animals, large groups of up to 50+ animals have also been seen here in the past, which is what we are hoping for!We will be accompanied by one of Sri Lanka's most renowned marine biologists. You will join the research team on a voyage of discovery into a marine world full of secrets. You won't just be observing - you'll be part of the scientific project. We have a special permit from the government so that we can also go into the water with the whales and dolphins.
Support research with your trip - directly, meaningfully, sustainably.
After four intensive days at sea, we enter a completely different world: three days in the heart of one of Sri Lanka's most wildlife-rich national parks. Here we search for Leopards, Elephants and Sloth bears with experienced guides - and enjoy the quiet magic of the jungle.
This exclusive trip is limited to just four participants . For all those who not only want to see nature, but also experience, understand and protect it.

Over the course of 4 days, we will sail far out to sea with a local marine biologist - to an underwater trench that is home to many marine mammals. He and his team will be conducting research there - and we will be there too!
We will be traveling to an area where no other providers can be found. Nevertheless, this region is considered one of the best areas in the country for observing marine mammals.
Everything is possible in terms of sightings here: although our main target is large groups of Sperm whales, many other marine mammals are also at home in this area. Large groups of spinner dolphins - which often appear in hundreds - Bottlenose dolphins, Striped dolphins, Pilot whales and even Orcas can be observed here with a bit of luck. Other large whales such as Blue whales - the largest animals in the world - and Bryde's whales can also be seen.
We go on our trips in a traditional, maneuverable motorboat - ideal for tracking marine mammals. We will have the researchers' equipment on board - for example, we will experience first-hand how to use a hydrophone correctly and hopefully successfully.
The national park we will visit is considered one of the most pristine and tranquil in the country. Away from the well-known tourist trails, visitors can experience an almost untouched wilderness with dense forests, open savannahs and numerous natural waterholes, the so-called "Willus", which characterize the landscape and serve as a vital source of water for many animals.
The variety of wildlife is particularly impressive. With a bit of luck, shy leopards can be spotted - the park is one of the best places in the world for sightings of these elegant big cats. Sloth bears are also at home here, as are elephants, axis deer, wild boar, water buffalo and mongooses. The park is a true paradise for bird enthusiasts: Over 200 species live here, including kingfishers, eagles, herons and the ubiquitous peacock.
What makes this national park special is its tranquillity. Due to the limited number of visitors, the nature experience remains authentic and intense. Whether on a morning safari in the golden light of the rising sun or on a sunset tour with an experienced ranger - every trip has the potential for unforgettable animal encounters.

Day 1: We pick you up at Colombo airport or in the surrounding area and take you to the hotel on the west coast of Sri Lanka in about 4 hours by car. Check-in, settle in and arrive.
Days 2-5: Our day starts early to make the most of the calm morning hours at sea. After a hearty breakfast, we meet at the boats and set off in search of the giants of the ocean. After 5 - 6 hours at sea, we return to the hotel in the afternoon. There we end the day with a relaxed sundowner and a delicious dinner.
Day 6: In the morning we move from the coast to a hotel near the national park. There we will enjoy lunch and later in the afternoon we will go on our first safari drive.
Days 7-8: Early in the morning we go stalking in the national park to see as many of the park's wild animals as possible. We return before midday, have lunch together and enjoy a few hours at the hotel. Later, we go on our second safari drive of the day. On our return, we have lunch in the restaurant and hopefully tell each other many stories of the day.
Day 9: After breakfast we will go to Colombo airport together, but of course we can also take you to a hotel in Colombo.

Sri Lanka has a tropical climate with warm temperatures all year round. Light, breathable clothing is ideal during the day - and even in the evening, T-shirts and shorts are perfectly adequate. Sun cream, headgear and sunglasses are essential for protection from the intense sun.
Bear in mind that we spend long days on the water and in the sun - long-sleeved UV shirts (rashguards) are therefore recommended! Wetsuits are not necessary, the water is warm enough! We recommend light, long clothing for the safari drives. This protects us from the sun and mosquitoes. Earth tones are an advantage here.
Equipment: We provide masks, snorkels and fins for all sea excursions. If you have your own equipment - especially for special sizes or personal preferences - we recommend that you bring it with you. It is also helpful to practice your snorkeling technique beforehand, as we want to move as quietly as possible in the water without splashing - the fins should always remain under water!
Photo tips: Lenses with a medium focal length of up to 300 mm are suitable for taking pictures above water. Under water, wide-angle lenses up to around 30 mm are ideal - even for impressive photos of whales and dolphins! Action cameras also deliver great results under water. Lenses with medium and long focal lengths (e.g. 600 mm) are suitable in national parks.
Currency: The local currency is the Sri Lankan rupee (LKR). Cash is recommended for personal purchases.
